Commercial Projects - Southwest Harbor Water Treatment Facility

The Water Treatment Facility was built for the Town of Southwest Harbor on the Long Pond Road. Untreated water is pumped from Long Pond to this treatment facility, treated and then pumped into the town's distribution system.

The facility has wood framed sidewalls and a wood trussed roof. The exterior of the building has “Cedar Impression” vinyl shingle siding which simulates the appearance of native white cedar. The building has a large equipment room, a pump room, offices, maintenance bay, rest rooms and chemical storage space. The height and exterior

treatment of the building were designed and built to conform to the requirements of the National Park Service.

Below the floor level of the building is an intricate system of cast in place concrete tanks which store a large volume of water prior to treatment. The water then goes through a disinfecting, filtration and monitoring system before leaving the facility.

The project was designed by James W. Sewall, Co. E. L. Shea did all of the concrete, roofing, and carpentry work on the project with our own forces. We teamed with Gatcomb Plumbing & Heating for the mechanical work, the 3E Company for the electrical, and John Goodwin Jr., Inc. for site work.
