| The Abbe is a natural history museum which houses a large collection of Native American archaeological artifacts.
The scope of this project was to tear down the old YMCA building and build an addition to the existing museum on that site. One of the unique challenges of this building was the tight site restrictions which required blasting for a new foundation adjacent to the existing historical museum.
The obvious trademark of this building is the circle, known as the “Circle of Four Seasons,” which houses the learning lab. The circle is framed with 12 exposed glulam arches wrapped in western red cedar clapboards at a 45° angle and capped with a copper roof.
